Beyond Data: Immunizations

To understand the many dimensions to an issue, engaging the community is essential to understanding the context for data.

To bring this data to life, we asked New Orleans residents how they relate to the data in The Youth Index 2016. Here’s what they had to say about the topic of Immunizations:

Although the children in our Head Start programs have their immunizations, I thought more kids would be immunized.  Health departments and other agencies haven’t done a good enough job of getting the word out to dispel rumors and myths about the relationship between immunizations and autism.”

There are many children in home-based care who aren’t immunized. Home-based childcare providers often do not know about important developmental milestones during early childhood including the necessary immunizations. But, the cost of childcare and cuts to childcare assistance programs limit families’ access to high quality early child care providers.”
