Copyright & Acceptable Use
The Data Center is a web site for the “public good,” and the information in this web site is designed to be easily used and linked to. In order to keep this resource freely, publicly available, we have a basic policy about copyright and fair use.
- When using information you found on this web site, please cite both the original source of the data, and the fact that the data was compiled by The Data Center. Suggested citations are found below each data table in the web site.
- Do not publicly re–publish data tables or entire web pages you find on this web site without our permission. We regularly update the information in our site, and the copy you republished will age and become inaccurate since we cannot maintain it. If you are publishing a web site, please link directly to the pages you are interested in (for our part, we have a policy of not changing the URLs to pages – so you can be assured that the link will not “rot”). If you are publishing something in print, please contact us for the best way to ensure that the data “ages well.” (This request does not apply to documents with small, limited audiences such as grant proposals.)
- Do not republish photographs from our web site without receiving permission from the copyright–holder. Most of the photographs in our neighborhood snapshots belong to other individuals or organizations, and we merely received permission to reprint those images on our web site. Below each image you will find information about the copyright–holder, typically with contact information.
If you have questions about this policy, please e–mail [email protected].
Copyright permissions we’ve received
We relied heavily on images from other sources on the Internet to illustrate our neighborhood snapshots. In all cases, we made reasonable attempts to request permission from the copyright–holder. If you believe we have mistakenly attributed ownership of an image, please contact us at [email protected] and we will rectify the situation.
