Video: Drivers of Housing Demand
Published: Jul 10, 2012
In this five–minute video briefing of Drivers of Housing Demand: Preparing for the Impending Elder Boom, Dr. Allison Plyer of The Data Center, examines the impact of the aging baby boomers on housing demand in New Orleans. Looking at three population projection scenarios, Dr. Plyer explains that gains in households headed by individuals 65 years and older will greatly surpass gains in younger households, even if New Orleans experiences an economic boom that attract many workers and their families. Enabling New Orleans’ aging baby boomers to remain in their homes over the next two decades will be a critical part of reducing blight and abandonment in the city.
